I'm missing my little outlaw, Bronco Sue, terribly. I left her up in Colorado with my sister so that she could get some work in with my friend Jerry, who will be driving her to the US Toller club's national specialty in Oregon this September. Jerry runs Sue in the field tests for me. Last year my little water baby decided that she didn't want to go into the water for him, so this year I'm hoping that they will have a little more time to work together and she won't be so unsure of herself when working for Jerry.
I just got a report in that she worked beautifully for him yesterday. We are both overjoyed that she did her water retreives without any hesitation at all. Jerry has also learned that Sue will return the bird to hand as long as he doesn't make her sit first. He says that this is typical behavior for dogs that haven't been force fetched. They have time to work out this glitch this year as Sue is going to be in Colorado for about six weeks before they leave for Oregon. I'm hoping to work with her on a trained retrieve using clicker methods once she is back home.
