July Shows in Houston 7/20-7/23 2006

Houston was a trial run for everyone. It was Ranger's conformation debut, Ceilidh's first try at Open level Agility and Sue's very first Agility trial. Mostly, we were just entered to see where we needed to adjust our training. I found that out and more.

The girls NQed in both their standard and jumpers runs on the 20th, but I was very pleased overall with their performances and now can see that we are almost there. Ceilidh's biggest problem was me, her handler. Sue needs to work on some attention and teamwork, before she's really ready, but I was very pleased with her runs as she became visibly more confident throughout the course of each run.

The 21st 22nd and 23rd wer reserved for Ranger in conformation. I did worry a little about debuting him at such a large venue, but he didn't bat an eye. In fact it seemed as though he thought the whole show was a party thrown just for him...We got off to a very rough start on the 21st. Ranger was so excited that he just couldn't hold himself still long enough for the judge to get a good look at him. After our ringtime I made a concerted effort to walk him all over the showsite so that it would become blasé for him. My main concern was just getting him to keep all four feet on the ground while the judges were going over him... The work paid off and on the 22nd and 23rd he showed much better and took winners each of those days.

Coming home, I know where we are and what we need to work on and that's what we were there for.
